Immunizations

Vaccination is one of the best things you can do to help protect yourself from serious diseases.

Vaccines for Children

Vaccinations are crucial for safeguarding infants and children from severe, potentially fatal diseases. Keeping up with recommended immunizations is vital. The Lincoln County Health Department offers most vaccines, and our immunization program provides significant benefits in disease prevention.

In West Virginia, state law mandates that all children entering school for the first time in grades K-12 must provide proof of vaccination against diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus, polio, measles, mumps, rubella, varicella, and hepatitis B unless they have a valid medical exemption. West Virginia State Law prohibits non-medical exemptions from vaccination requirements.

Parents of children seeking vaccinations who cannot afford them must complete the Vaccines for Children (VFC) Program form.

Vaccines for Adults

The Lincoln County Health Department provides a range of vaccinations for adults 19 years and older. Available vaccines include Tdap (Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis, also known as whooping cough), Pneumonia, Yellow Fever, Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, or the combined Twinrix, and Shingrix (shingles), in addition to those mandated by universities, employers, and immigration authorities.

Flu vaccines are offered to individuals aged six months and above, with high-dose flu shots available for those 65 and older. As new influenza strains appear annually, it is essential to get vaccinated every year. Our Immunization Clinic administers flu shots based on vaccine availability, typically from late September to November. Additionally, the Lincoln County Health Department organizes flu clinics across the county annually to ensure all residents are protected. Details on clinic locations and times will be updated on our website when available.

Adults without health insurance can receive vaccines at a reduced cost, and some may be eligible for free vaccinations. Most insurances are accepted. Please call to check availability and pricing.

Vaccinations from infancy through adulthood are available on a walk-in basis at our Immunization Clinic, located at the health department in Hamlin, WV. It is open every Monday from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
